Word of the Day: Coffee

Hello all you wonderful people… It is Friday and the end of the work week and I am looking forward to doing a little reading on the plane to the Detroit.  What are your big plans for the weekend?   I, of course, have to work.  What about you?  Tell me your plans and give me some ideas for fun in the sun starting in June… I would love to hear from you and do a little chatting online.  We can talk here or we can go to the Facebook page for Prime Immortals and chat there.  You might even get me to spill a little on what Alessar and Dylan are going to be doing in the next book, Dark Days.
So let’s get down to the business of the day.  Today’s word of the day comes to us from Susie C. in Phoenix, AZ.  She has chosen one of my favorite words to hear in the morning, Coffee! The word is great, but the drink is divine.  Thank you, Susie, for your word of the day submission.   Coffee it truly is a great word and used in several different ways when writing.  To understand my meaning, let us first discuss the definition of the word.  Today our definition comes to us from our online source at www.thefreedictionary.com
cof·fee n.
1. a. Any of various tropical African shrubs or trees of the genus Coffea, especially C. arabica, widely cultivated in the tropics for their seeds that are dried, roasted, and ground to prepare a stimulating aromatic drink.
b. The beanlike seeds of this plant, enclosed within a pulpy fruit.
c. The beverage prepared from the seeds of this plant.

2. A moderate brown to dark brown or dark grayish brown.

3. An informal social gathering at which coffee and other refreshments are served.

I love this word because not only can it be a noun, it can also be an adjective.  “Coffee in color” is one of my favorite ways to describe a beautiful shade of brown.  It can vary from person to person, depending upon what their version of coffee looks like when they drink it.  It allows the reader to make a decision on what exactly the true color of his beautifully taught skin looks like. Or they can use the noun and discuss the beverage, bean or plant.  This is what I like to think of as a wonder word.  Fun to use and can change to outlook within a reader’s mind if only in a very subtle way…  Thanks for the submission of the word Coffee. Susie.  Remember to do it again and give yourself another chance to win that Kindle.
That’s all for now folks!!!  Thanks for stopping by and remember to pick up a book and Read On!!!
All my best, H.R. Phillips
