Word of the Day: Efficient

Good morning to all of you avid readers out there in this big beautiful world!  I hope that you are having a great day on this wonderful sunny spring morning… As you can tell from my post, I have been in a great mood and plan to stay that way for a really long time.  Well, at least until the sky falls…

For those of you who don’t understand that reference, read the book Chicken Little. Maybe it will stimulate you and those around you into reading something outside the box.  Yes, I know, everyone has their particular favorites that they like to read, but really challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone.  You may just find that you will enjoy it.

I personally read everything, from murder mystery, fantasy and SciFi to the desirable romance novel. That’s right people, I said it…  I love a good romance novel and reading one makes me happy.  Don’t knock it, if you have never tried it…

That’s enough of that silly business.  Let’s get down to why you are here today.  Other than reading my witty writing, you’re here reading this blog to find out the word of the day.  Today’s word comes to us from the very beautiful Suzane Jensen.  She has chosen the word efficient.

Our definition of the word efficient comes to us from our online source at www.thefreedictionary.com
ef·fi·cient  (-fshnt)
adj.
1. Acting directly to produce an effect: an efficient cause. See Synonyms at effective.
 2.
a. Acting or producing effectively with a minimum of waste, expense, or unnecessary effort.
b. Exhibiting a high ratio of output to input.

Well, I know that we have all probably struggled with this definition before.  If you believe that I am wrong, let me know by responding with your thoughts on this blog or the Prime Immortal fan page on Facebook.
I think that there is not a body out there who has not wasted time before.  Even though we would love to be efficient all the time, it is not a practical thought.  Really, life is meant to be enjoyed, though you can be efficient most of the time.  Just how much fun is it?

Guess that is all I have today.  So until next time remember to Read On!!!

Word of the Day: Animadversion

Hello everyone… Hope you all had a wonderful week.  I know what you’re thinking…where have I been?  I have not been around to post on the blog and I do apologize for that.  I have been very busy with life.  So please forgive me; I will try to do better.  It is Friday and I am looking forward to a wonderful weekend filled with fun and adventure with my troops.  We have a very busy schedule starting early Saturday morning and continuing on through to Monday.  School is almost out and I find that I am excited about seeing my children more.  I say that now, but by the end of the summer I will be ready for them to be on a school schedule again.  I know this because it happens to me every year.

With that being said, I wanted to mention that we have changed the closing date for the $500 essay contest.  You will need to go to the website to find the new date.  We did this to allow for more entries.  Please make sure that you get them in on time so that we can consider everyone. Good luck and remember to have fun with it.

Let’s move on to the word of the day, submitted by Shelby Brantley of South Dakota. Shelby has given us the word animadversion.

Our definition comes to us from our online source at www.thefreedictionary.com
an·i·mad·ver·sion  (n-md-vûrzhn, -shn)
n.
1. Strong criticism.
2. A critical or censorious remark.

Well, I think that we have all been in the line of fire at some point in time when strong criticism has been used.  If you haven’t, then maybe you should reach outside the box and step out of your comfort zone.  Sometimes strong criticism is exactly what we need in order to improve upon ourselves.  I know that I always take the good with the bad and usually reap some reward along the way.  It is called life; and would it be worth living if we didn’t have a little personal self-growth along the way.  That is just my thought on the subject. Tell me what you’re thinking. Give me a little feedback by posting online or joining me on Facebook.

Until next time, remember to Read On!!!

Word of the Day: Myocrdial Infarction

Hello to all you wonderful people out there!  Well, you might have noticed that I didn’t get a post up yesterday and I am truly sorry about that.  I have just been crazy busy, working very hard to make sure that we stay on course with the book series. I am happy to announce that I am much farther along in the series than two days ago and I can’t wait to get them into my faithful readers’ hands.

But, enough about that.  Let’s get to the business of the day and talk words.  We have a rather large word today.  In fact, the truth is that it is really two words that were submitted together. However, due to the nature of the word we really can’t separate them.  So, thank you to Pamela Davis, one of our newest Facebook fans, for she submitted the word of the day and it is Myocardial Infarction.

Our definition comes to us from our online source www.medterms.com

Myocardial infarction: A heart attack.  A sudden and sometimes fatal occurrence of coronary thrombosis, typically resulting in the death of part of a heart muscle. Abbreviated: MI.

The term "myocardial infarction" focuses on the myocardium (the heart muscle) and the changes that occur in it due to the sudden deprivation of circulating blood.  The main change is necrosis (death) of myocardial tissue.

The word "infarction" comes from the Latin "infarcire," meaning "to plug up or cram."  It refers to the clogging of the artery.

Well, even though I am familiar with the term, I don’t like to hear it.  Nor would I probably put it in my writing.  However, it is always good to expand ones knowledge and I have to say a great big thank you to each and every one of you fans who submit a word for the day.  Some of them have been rather creative.

That is all for today, please join us tomorrow and remember to Read On!!!

Dreams

Well hello again all you lovely people out there in the vast world of cyber space.  It is another beautiful day in the neighborhood and I am enjoying the morning sunrise as much as I possibly can right now.  I want to talk a little about dreams today.  The reason for this strange topic is because I woke this morning to a rather unpleasant dream of failure. Or what I believe to be failure as signified to me in the dream.  I really can’t say for sure, so maybe it wasn’t failure but loss.  Yet, the impression that I got from the dream left me with a feeling of lacking.  Even though I have never been able to interpret my dreams correctly I have to go with what I feel.  So is lacking failure or loss?  Who knows, I just don’t like the lingering sensation.

So after taking a rather long shower to shake off the depressing feeling of disappointment that was plaguing me, I poured myself a cup of coffee (heavy on the French Vanilla creamer) and sat down to put my thoughts on paper.  I always feel better writing in my journal or typing away on my keyboard.

Why was I feeling this way?  Hasn’t the majority of the work I have accomplished over the last few years been rewarding?  Could it be that I was not giving enough?  Unable to find the answers I was looking for, I moved on, deciding to let it go for now and if the feeling presented itself again, attempt to figure it out then.  After all, I have a busy life and with four children to get up and ready for school there was no time to dally on feelings.  It would have to wait…

I’m at work now, with the kids off to school.  Firmly sitting at my desk working a multi-tasking job, I begin to wonder, for the second time in just a few short hours, why I was feeling so strangely this morning. Dreaming is not a new experience for me; in fact, when I was a child I had night terrors.  For those of you who know about terrors, my heart goes out to you.

Yet, dreaming can be a wonderful experience as well.  I find that some of the best dreams I have ever had were the beginnings of new and adventurous stories.  In fact, most of the work in the second book of the Prime Immortal series, Dark Days, comes from a hidden place deep inside me where I bottle up the worst of my thoughts and try to forget that I had them.  Now that I have an outlet for them, I can use them freely when needed and they don’t pollute the rest of my mind with their vileness.

Why do people wonder how Stephen King can come up with some of the crazy psycho stories that he writes about, such as Carrie or Pet Cemetery?  Makes me wonder what people like Jim Butcher and VC Andrews dream about.  Then again, all we need to do is watch the news on a regular basis and you can see where most of the horror stories that we read for entertainment are coming from.  Plastered on the front page of a newspaper or running in the evening news, it would be a surprise not to have bad dreams after watching the news.

Anyhow, I am beginning to sound a little bit grumpy and I really need to swing this back around.  It doesn’t pay to keep that kind of feeling inside and if you have ever been in that same weather worn, potholed, and broken down road as me, then let me know.  I would love to help you out and talk with you about your concerns.  Writing is a great way to let out your feelings.  No one needs to see it or even read it; but maybe you and your pen and paper become the next big thing.  Remember, it only takes one person to hear you and understand what you’re going though. So let’s chat and maybe, just maybe, we will both have beautiful dreams the next time we lay our heads down to rest.  So in an attempt to leave on a much happier note, I have found the following quote.

“To love someone is nothing, to be loved by someone is something, but to be loved by the one you love is everything.” ~ Unknown

That’s all I have for today.  Until we meet again, remember to Read On!!!

Word of the Day: Fantabulous

Good morning to all of you out there reading this silly little blog of mine…  I hope you had a productive weekend or even better, a fun weekend.  I am back from my work trip and getting ready to head into work.  I had a wonderful evening at home with my children and I am looking forward to the daily routine of work to get me back on track. So without any further ado, I give you today’s word of the day. Fantabulous!  Yes! That is our word of the day it was submitted by Brooke Wolken of New Underwood, SD.

I have to admit that I use this word on a regular basis when I am speaking.  I love slang words like this that take two lovely words such as fantastic and fabulous and create another word altogether.  It makes the English language just that much more fun to read.

Moving on we get our definition from our online source at www.thefreedictionary.com
fan·tab·u·lous  (fn-tby-ls)
adj. Slang
Marvelously excellent: "a really fantabulous find, just magnificent" (Mel Fisher).
[Blend of fantastic and fabulous.]

Well, it is a Monday morning and I am pushing it a little on the time.  Need to be racing out the door in order to make it to work on time.  So, I will have to go.  But before I go, just remember to do just one thing… Read On!!!  All my best to you and yours, until next time.
